How to publish in the journal Clinical Osteology and how to prepare a manuscript and illustrative attachments

1. Submitting the manuscript to the Editorial Office: Submit the manuscript, including (image) attachments (see point 13), electronically. Attach a declaration of originality of the work and all attachments (if reusing attachments from another publication, send the copyright holder’s permission) and a statement that the work has not yet been published or simultaneously submitted for publication in another periodical.

2. Publication languages: Czech, Slovak, and English.

3. Journal citation abbreviation: Clin Osteol

4. Technical specifications of the manuscript: Submit the text electronically as a separate file created in MS Office Word (DOC or DOCX). Use Times New Roman, 12-point font. Do not format the text (use only the styles Heading 1–3 and Normal throughout). For emphasis, use only bold or italics. Submit attachments (tables, figures, graphs, and diagrams) and their titles in separate files (or file), see item 13.

5. Length of submissions including references: Length of the text itself (i.e., excluding attachments), in characters including spaces (approx. also in standard pages; 1 standard page = 1,800 characters including spaces):

  • Original article: 19–23 standard pages (34,200 to max. 41,400 characters incl. spaces)
  • Review article / case report: 7–12 standard pages (12,600 to max. 21,600 characters incl. spaces)
  • Editorial: 4.6 standard pages (max. 8,300 characters incl. spaces)
  • Other (report, personal communication, review, etc.): max. 4.6 standard pages (max. 8,300 characters incl. spaces)

6. Title of the manuscript: Must be clear and concise (max. 60 characters including spaces) and should not contain abbreviations. An English translation is mandatory.

7. Author information: For all authors, provide full first name and surname and the affiliation (exact name of the workplace including clinic/department, etc., and the workplace website). For the corresponding author, also provide academic titles, scientific/teaching positions, and an e-mail address (and a phone number as an editorial contact, preferably a mobile number).

8. Abstract (i.e. résumé/summary of the article): An English translation of corresponding length is mandatory. Length in characters including spaces:

  • Original article: min. 1,000 to max. 2,000 characters incl. spaces; structured
  • Review article / case report: min. 800 to max. 1,200 characters incl. spaces

9. Keywords: In Czech or Slovak and in English, arranged alphabetically.

10. Use of abbreviations: At first use, provide the full wording of the abbreviated term; if the term is from English, provide the full wording also in English, e.g., ambulant blood pressure monitoring (ABPM – ambulatory blood pressure monitoring).

11. References: Max. 30 references, primarily recent (from the last 5 years), following the template below. Number and list references in the order in which they are cited in the text. Place the in-text reference at the relevant point and indicate it with a number in square brackets, with no spaces, e.g., (1,3,11–13).


12. Reference style:

Format:

13. Attachments in general (tables, graphs, diagrams, black-and-white or color figures and images, instrument recordings): Do not insert them into the MS Office Word text file. Submit them as separate “source” files in which they were created. Cite each attachment in the text in parentheses, e.g., (Table 1) or (Graph 1) or (Diagram 1) or (Fig. 1). If “non-author” attachments are used, written permission must always be provided from all individuals or legal entities holding the copyright. Alternatively, you may use the original data to create an author’s own attachment with a reference such as “adapted from Drummond MF, Sculpher MJ, Torrance GW et al. Methods for the Economic Evaluation of Health Care Programmes. 3rd ed. Oxford University Press: Oxford (UK) 2005. ISBN 10 0198529457,” or “adapted from [7]” with the full reference listed in the References section. Captions in non-author foreign-language attachments must be translated into Czech. Provide attachment titles with the relevant designation (e.g., “Fig. 1. Endoscopically implantable duodenojejunal sleeve,” etc.) in a separate MS Office Word file (see item 4).

14. Tables: Must be created in MS Office Excel or MS Office Word using the table function (do not merge cells and do not insert bullet points, dashes, numbers, etc. within a single cell).

15. Graphs: Must be created in MS Office Excel (graphs already inserted into MS Office PowerPoint may also be submitted). Graphs in other formats cannot be printed and must be recreated.

16. Diagrams: Must be created in a graphics editor or submitted as an image file (JPG, JPEG, TIF) or as an open PDF at print resolution; see below.

17. Photographs, instrument recordings, and line drawings: Must be submitted in JPG, JPEG, TIF, or GIF format at print resolution (at least 300 dpi), with a minimum size of 885 × 826 pixels (print size 7.5 × 7 cm, i.e., one column). An image with a print size of 14 × 7 cm (two columns) must be 1650 × 826 pixels.
